OVWP 33 (bonus) Overdrive! Covering OVW Overdrive Season 3 Episode 72

TyniBrian:

247365 certified, Lou Curtis is a vibe. And you are listening to the OVW podcast. Welcome to the OVW podcast, the unofficial podcast of Ohio Valley Wrestling. My name is Tiny Brian, and I am here as just this once. Just just once?

TyniBrian:

Well, maybe not just this once, but for the first time in this setting with my good friend, Victor Anderson. Victor, how are you today, sir?

Victor Anderson:

Hello. Good people.

TyniBrian:

So we are not your normal podcast team.

Victor Anderson:

Oh, you're not.

TyniBrian:

We are here but we are here for a very specific purpose. OVW, in their quest to have more stuff going on, has taken what was once the preshow, what was once just a bunch of dark matches, and have started repackaging them into Overdrive Overdrive. Which premiers, Tuesday evenings on YouTube. If you've not seen it, this is your one shot that we're gonna spoil everything that happens in it. So, stop now and go watch, and we'll be here.

TyniBrian:

Okay. Welcome back. So let's first of all, first thing I wanna talk about with Overdrive, Victor, is Okay. Just look at this. Look at this.

TyniBrian:

This is it it's according to their own title, it's season 3 of episode 73. So I've seen some clips of Kennison and, Stevie j doing weird things on the Internet. Mhmm. Apparently, all of those come from here. All of all of the yeah.

TyniBrian:

Like It's considered overdrive.

Victor Anderson:

I guess it's okay.

TyniBrian:

So that they've done this before. I'm not sure why they stopped, but now they're back, and we're we're happy for it. Good. So, we do have, we so

Victor Anderson:

We come in with Kennison.

TyniBrian:

Yeah. We come in with Kennison standing in the middle of the empty Davis arena, just sort of talking through. Now he talks about this episode is picking up on a thread that apparently happened where Stevie j married Al Snow's

Victor Anderson:

mom. Oh, really?

TyniBrian:

I didn't know that. That that was the the reason why he was doing his the whole trip through Europe and why Al Snow kinda sold him into bondage. So Stevie j doesn't fear for his life? Well, I mean, we'll talk about what happened to Stevie j at the end of this episode. Yeah.

TyniBrian:

That's the notion.

Victor Anderson:

That's the main boss's

TyniBrian:

Yeah. That's all mine. Yeah. Well, we all know that Al Snow does enjoy a a your mom joke. He does.

TyniBrian:

If you want to get really drunk, listen to our full interview of Al Snow and drink every time he makes a your momma joke.

Victor Anderson:

Sure. But this is Al's mommy

TyniBrian:

Yeah. And that was so late last year, after the the Christmas chaos, Maven and a bunch of people, bunch of wrestlers all got together there in Louisville.

Victor Anderson:

Maven? You mean the Tough Enough winner?

TyniBrian:

I mean, the Tough Enough

Victor Anderson:

winner. That's weird.

TyniBrian:

No. He was Al was his coach during Tough Enough.

Victor Anderson:

Oh, okay. That's right. That's right. Okay.

TyniBrian:

So they all got together, and they did basically a roast of Al Snow.

Victor Anderson:

Oh, fun.

TyniBrian:

Yeah. And that's the the finale of that roast was, Kenneth was, Stevie j marrying Al Snow's mom. I see. And she was in on the joke. Fun.

TyniBrian:

Okay. So but, apparently, they are still punishing them here on on Overdrive. Okay. So that's why, we Kennison tells the story that Al Snow sold him to into an austral an Austrian fighting ring and why he had to make his way back across Europe. Basically like in dirt indentured servitude.

TyniBrian:

I I guess. It it it's a very troubling story if you really listen to it. And then, they abused Brian Kennison in this organization quite a bit.

Victor Anderson:

Just a little bit.

TyniBrian:

Just a little I feel for the man, really. He's a

Victor Anderson:

He doesn't even get time for his kid.

TyniBrian:

No. He's, you know, he cries on golf courses. It's it's really

Victor Anderson:

You know? So we People gotta play golf.

TyniBrian:

Somebody has to. Somebody has to. I'm not gonna. Somebody has to. Right.

TyniBrian:

Yeah. So anyway, he cuts to and then we cut back to Thursday. And, I was actually here for these matches on Thursday. Okay. Was sitting literally right by the scorer's table.

TyniBrian:

A little recap of they they also do some other stuff, but let's get get into this first match, which is, ZDP and Maximo Suave, friend of the both friends of the show. ZDP is, well, more of a a predator of the show.

Victor Anderson:

Well, he got

TyniBrian:

me. He got you. He he he almost got the host. I'm I'm still glad to find oh, by the way, we're glad to have you back.

Victor Anderson:

I'm still healing up a little bit. I took a little nasty fall as everybody saw, but I I made it through it. Just got a skinned elbow, and I I I managed. But that was scary, though.

TyniBrian:

It it was. Yeah.

Victor Anderson:

People ask me. It's like, did you mean to fall? I'm like, oh, what the hell do you do when a zombie gets after you? You run.

TyniBrian:

You run. And you just can't help it. You you run. I'm just glad he didn't get after me because he would have caught me in, like, 2 steps. The man's fast and I am not.

TyniBrian:

And, you

Victor Anderson:

know, like, here he goes chasing after that good guy. Yeah. Look here he called him too. Took his shoe.

TyniBrian:

Shoe off. Eric yeah. Eric Cornish loses his shoe at one point.

Victor Anderson:

There he goes crawling. That's hilarious.

TyniBrian:

And, fortunately, Maximo does save him and and toss him back into the ring. Great match here, technically speaking.

Victor Anderson:

It it is. They're they're a good match up too.

TyniBrian:

Yeah. You can tell they've done this quite a bit. They were part of the the 6 man match at Lexington that we saw. Correct. So and I think we saw some of these same spots or at least versions of

Victor Anderson:

spots there. That modified pile driver that Maximo does is badass. I like how you've changed the variation of it because, well, you had to because shorter guys have a hard time move pulling that maneuver off because, you know, you'll break somebody's neck. Right. But that's nice how he did that.

Victor Anderson:

And it looks it looks good. It looks like he killed the zombie.

TyniBrian:

Always love to see, always love to see Maximo. Glad, glad to see him here kicking off this episode of Overdrive.

Victor Anderson:

Best friend.

TyniBrian:

Jackman's close personal best friend. That's right. I'm pretty fond of him myself. He's pretty much a friend of the show.

Victor Anderson:

He is.

TyniBrian:

And, so, you know, he talked about so Braun's story gets more ridiculous as time goes by. 1st, he tunneled his way out of the Austrian fighting ring. Then he gets to France and, starts working in a bakery and and marries a girl marries a girl and has kids.

Victor Anderson:

I'm glad you cleared it up because I could not figure out. I was like, what are you talking about?

TyniBrian:

Apparently, Overdrive is just an alternate reality. I okay. That seems to be what's going on here. Is it a it's a completely separate world where weird things happen.

Victor Anderson:

I I like Kennison on all due respect, but he had a hard time digging his way out of a fruitcake.

TyniBrian:

Okay. Easy. They're hard enough on Kennison. We don't have to pile on tonight.

Victor Anderson:

I'm just kidding, Brad, if you hear this. I'm just playing.

TyniBrian:

So then they they do spend some time going through the the with some footage of the Lexington show and the Indianapolis show Yeah. And the, tailspin ale fest, which every time I hear, I wanna call the tailspin tail fest, which is not what it is at all. What is it? It's the tailspin ale fest. What is it?

TyniBrian:

Tailspin l tail See. Easy for me to say. Tailspin ale is the name of the prod Ale.

Victor Anderson:

Like a I know. Alcoholic beverage.

TyniBrian:

Yes.

Victor Anderson:

Yes.

TyniBrian:

And and then they have a fest. Yes. So it's the tailspin Ale Fest.

Victor Anderson:

Ale, you say?

TyniBrian:

Yes. Okay. It's an ale fest. It's a tailspin ale fest.

Victor Anderson:

I like the food as they got from that from them being outside with, like, the storm in the background. That was cool.

TyniBrian:

There is a a certain picture of of, official official Daniel Spencer

Victor Anderson:

Mhmm.

TyniBrian:

Who, is standing there slotted against the the storm kinda pointing authoritatively. I really I you may see me do a movie poster of that because I just feel like it.

Victor Anderson:

Oh, you gotta make sure you get lightning come out of his fingertip though.

TyniBrian:

Oh, yeah. No. Let's let's not get that man's ego swelled anymore. He already takes 10 minutes to count 3 as it is.

Victor Anderson:

He already can't fit in a Davis arena. Come on.

TyniBrian:

So yeah. And the the tailspin did look really fun, the outdoor show. Looking forward to some maybe some more outdoor wrestling as the temperatures warm up, and and we're gonna have a lot of fun with it.

Victor Anderson:

Well, we gotta go to the country boy show. I'm sure they'll be doing that.

TyniBrian:

I'm sure that'll be sooner rather later.

Victor Anderson:

Next 6 weeks or so, I'd say.

TyniBrian:

Yep. So

Victor Anderson:

let's move on, maybe to the next match.

TyniBrian:

It's, if I can we are oh, and, we do have it up here on YouTube. I'm trying Brian Hines is usually the, the video guy who has the matches up for him and Jackman to discuss. Yeah. Turns out there's more skill to that than I realized. So bat 2 here of Overdrive is a three way match between Justice Davis, who I had never seen before.

TyniBrian:

Nope. KT Dune, who I had also never seen before.

Victor Anderson:

It's Dune and not Dunn?

TyniBrian:

Dunn. Yeah. You're right. Okay. It it's spelled it's spelled the same, but I think you're I think you're right.

TyniBrian:

It's pronounced Dunn. Dunn. Okay. And then, AJ Vest, who, the man who dresses like his name.

Victor Anderson:

Instead of cummerbund.

TyniBrian:

Instead of cummerbund. Yeah. He also he's so nineties tastic with that that coat with the long tail. It's like

Victor Anderson:

Well, we need to have a grunge guy when we have the eighties, baby.

TyniBrian:

I guess. Well, he the eighties baby's nowhere near this.

Victor Anderson:

I know. But I'm just saying, you know, you got a eighties guy. You have a nineties guy.

TyniBrian:

So this is the classic dark match. At least it seems to me the classic dark match.

Victor Anderson:

Yep.

TyniBrian:

See who who gets over, see who can actually perform in front of the cameras and the audience because vest is our only real known quantity.

Victor Anderson:

And it's a triple threat, which is probably my favorite match. I like a good triple threat.

TyniBrian:

Well, the good thing about triple threat is that the rhythm is pretty pretty steady. It is. There's there's never a moment where where everybody's laying in the side of the ring like Oh, no. Yep.

Victor Anderson:

Yep. It's it's it's a good format to me. I like it. So AJ Vest does, kinda come out the, the victor in this match. And, there you go.

TyniBrian:

Sponsored by Victor. Yes. We just saw him get the pin. Mhmm. And, you know, he's the only one we actually know, so that makes sense to me that he would he they would be putting him over.

TyniBrian:

Does feel like he is in that that that wave sort of behind folks like Will Austin and Orion, like the next level.

Victor Anderson:

I will put him on that level. Yeah.

TyniBrian:

No. He's he's behind them specifically.

Victor Anderson:

Yeah.

TyniBrian:

Yeah. And maybe he will he will grow up into the kind of performer like them.

Victor Anderson:

He's definitely got potential. Yeah. He does.

TyniBrian:

I'm not a fan of the gimmick. Maybe maybe he'll he'll do something to improve that at

Victor Anderson:

some point. I wanna call him like AJ bow tie or something. Or a a a j, like, suit jacket. Just

TyniBrian:

just whatever. Just spats. His name is AJ Spats. Oh,

Victor Anderson:

AJ Cufflings.

TyniBrian:

Cufflings. That's

Victor Anderson:

a good one. But, anyway And

TyniBrian:

he comes out with ridiculous, like, a a tuxedo shirt with these enormous cufflinks every week.

Victor Anderson:

Maybe Carson Drake could do that.

TyniBrian:

Oh, that he he he would make a pretty good Carson Drake, like, follower.

Victor Anderson:

Oh, like a little, Yeah.

TyniBrian:

He needs him a little sidekick.

Victor Anderson:

Yeah. Like yeah.

TyniBrian:

So, yeah, that would be fun. And when we come back after that second match, we take a moment. We we spend some time with, the veteran Jack Vonn.

Victor Anderson:

One of my favorites.

TyniBrian:

Yep. One of our one of our favorites, a friend of the show, watched for his interview to show up in the next couple weeks in our feed. I was kind enough to come the day of the Manchester show here and talk to the podcast broadcast team. Mhmm. So we're we're looking forward to that.

TyniBrian:

And, basically, recapping the the situation on RISE, we've got the and, if you're listening to this, basically, as soon as we release it, it's still before Rise where we will see Tony gun face, superior. Wow. We'll see Tony Gunn face Luke Curtis. Luke Curtis. Certified Luke Curtis for the number one yeah.

TyniBrian:

For the heavyweight championship, number 1 contendership, which I assume we will see that play out at March at March mayhem.

Victor Anderson:

Yes. But they are gonna wrestle Thursday.

TyniBrian:

Yes. They are wrestling Thursday. There's also long as we're talking about it, there's a a mixed tag match that I'm pretty excited about.

Victor Anderson:

I saw the who was the contestants again?

TyniBrian:

It's Haley and Cal Hero versus Tiffany and some probably Tony Evans.

Victor Anderson:

Maybe. Yeah. Yeah. It was Tony Evans.

TyniBrian:

Yeah. So that'll be fun.

Victor Anderson:

That's interesting. Who can talk the loudest?

TyniBrian:

And is there No, Tiffany.

Victor Anderson:

I'm just kidding. It's your

TyniBrian:

I was thinking of Hailey, but

Victor Anderson:

I was gonna say, I know Tiffany's the princess. And now to get this right

TyniBrian:

Tony Evans is not gonna hush Tiffany. She's his tag partner.

Victor Anderson:

I know. I know. Just saying. So but, you

TyniBrian:

know and, Jack does the thing that you would expect. They they talk about his his thigh slapping Internet memes. And, Jack's like, well, you know, I know it's all funny, but there's really biting social commentary under there about how there's no real professional wrestlers anymore. And

Victor Anderson:

Well, there's no

TyniBrian:

have a large impressive mustache.

Victor Anderson:

Said he's not an indie wrestler. He is a professional. He is the veteran. And you know what? He looks that part.

TyniBrian:

I'm just now noticing his eyeglasses as we're watching them talk.

Victor Anderson:

You know, my favorite thing, speaking of his eyeglasses, is that when he walks out into the tunnel, then he puts his glasses on. I just want my glasses.

TyniBrian:

I wanna see you guys better. But, no. I love I love his whole get up with the towel around with the towel

Victor Anderson:

tucked in around his neck and, and the jacket.

TyniBrian:

The varsity. Yeah. Here we have his his picture with his varsity jacket laid over the ring here in the studio up on our wall up on our wall of fame. So so, yeah, Jack, pretty much the standard interview. Definitely go watch it if you've not.

Victor Anderson:

I look forward to any program that he runs or a program he runs with any wrestler. As long as it involves Jack Von, it'll be solid.

TyniBrian:

Well, yeah. He is. He's yeah. And just delightful man to to sit and just talk to as Brian and, Brian and, Jackman figured out as well. So we'll go ahead and move ahead to our main event for OVW Overdrive 70 season 3, episode 73.

TyniBrian:

That is way more complicated than just having one number. There's the man right there. And 2 friends of the show who come to face each other, star Rider and certified Luke Curtis. I love his when he does the lean with the here I am.

Victor Anderson:

Yeah. It's almost like Randy Orton's, but not a little bit more flamboyant, I would say. Yeah.

TyniBrian:

He he that's what's always been great about him is how yeah. He's so and and, I'm I'm kinda glad to have him on his own because there was a limit to how kind of flamboyant he could be as an overman or even a faction member because

Victor Anderson:

Well, yeah. I mean, he was already outshining them in the ring. He didn't need to outshine them with his with his gimmick too.

TyniBrian:

No. Well, he did. That's why we took him away from it.

Victor Anderson:

Any any gimmick beats, you know, human thumb and, nonbaby. So That is true. That

TyniBrian:

is true. So, one thing that I was thinking as I was watching this match is, like I said, we've the podcast broadcast team has talked to both of these people. I've been in the room for both these conversations. And they both of these people in those conversations talked about the other. Mhmm.

TyniBrian:

Like when Star Rider was here, he spent he went at talked at length about this pro about his program with Luke Curtis last summer and how Luke ended up putting a mask on. And, you know, it was a whole complicated situation. And Luke mentioned it as well even though he was that was months earlier. Star Rider came up. So these two, long history, and it absolutely shows.

Victor Anderson:

A lot of mutual respect there.

TyniBrian:

Mhmm. And and, you know, kind of a, at this point, kind of a face versus face. Because when they were doing this the first time, it was very much, you know, Luke was the heel. He was doing all the things just to mess with Star Rider in every way you can think of. But now they're just, you know, 2 competitors just going at it.

TyniBrian:

Yep. And, with the official official there keeping things in order, Daniel Spencer.

Victor Anderson:

He can't count very fast, though.

TyniBrian:

He that's what I hear. That seems to be the rumor that that 3 is hard for him to find.

Victor Anderson:

That's what the colonel told me. And I I I trust

TyniBrian:

the colonel. He has 11 herbs and spices. No.

Victor Anderson:

No. He comes to the Davis arena and he tells you about what's going on with the matches and why people are booing him.

TyniBrian:

Yeah. The the Davis Arena crowd, for those of you who only kinda watch at home or on the Internet, they don't really they boo Daniel quite a bit.

Victor Anderson:

They boo him a lot. Right. He they not as much as Shannon, but a lot.

TyniBrian:

Yeah. Shannon yeah. And, you know, we kid Daniel here a lot for We do. You know, official, unofficial, whatever. But he's I don't get it.

TyniBrian:

I've never gotten it. He doesn't seem to be the heel ref that I would expect to get a lot of boos. He just kinda stands up there and plays rock, paper, scissors with it with the kids.

Victor Anderson:

With the kids, man.

TyniBrian:

Yeah. And with me occasionally. I'm I think we're we're the 1 on 1 lifetime rock, paper, scissors record. So I'm coming for you, Daniel.

Victor Anderson:

So, anyway, they deliver a solid match here as they as you would expect.

TyniBrian:

It was awesome to see. And, in fact, if you're watching the match, there was still few enough people that towards the end, you could actually hear me. I think I'm yelling for star rider.

Victor Anderson:

Oh, okay.

TyniBrian:

Although I yelled for both of them throughout this match because I like both these guys. But, great match. Luke does come away with a win because he is the one who is on program, so to speak. You know, he's gotta go get that have that number one contenders match.

Victor Anderson:

He's getting a run.

TyniBrian:

Yes. He is getting a run. That is that is certain.

Victor Anderson:

And I'm glad to see it. I hope that, I think Lewis Curtis can go. OVW, NWA, whatever and beyond. I think he's that good and he's got the look. So I'm excited to see him do it.

TyniBrian:

Yeah. We're I I it's gonna be fun to watch the next few years.

Victor Anderson:

Yeah.

TyniBrian:

So, yes, Luke Curtis does get to win in the, the main event, I guess, of Overdrive.

Victor Anderson:

Yeah. That was the the final match. I would call that a main event.

TyniBrian:

I would call it a main event. Brian finishes up his story about how he finally got home, thanks to OVW sponsors, the unit. Oh. Oh, they smuggled him home from Britain after he became sort of a punk rock star.

Victor Anderson:

Good to have have friends with Manny, I guess.

TyniBrian:

And there was some some conversation about, his wife and his his and his French wife, trying to get all that to play together.

Victor Anderson:

Okay.

TyniBrian:

He he says he may move to Utah. Hopefully, we we sort this out.

Victor Anderson:

Wanna say he's building a hair on my suit.

TyniBrian:

I guess. I

Victor Anderson:

mean, you know Dan Kinison, I I had you well, underestimated you a little bit.

TyniBrian:

Yeah. I guess we underestimated.

Victor Anderson:

Not seen him to Russia. Shoot.

TyniBrian:

No kidding.

Victor Anderson:

Or Asia. Oh my gosh.

TyniBrian:

Austria. That's in Europe.

Victor Anderson:

I know. But That's

TyniBrian:

where Arnold Schwarzenegger's from. Okay. Okay.

Victor Anderson:

But you said he had a French wife. I'm just saying.

TyniBrian:

Oh, yeah. He escaped from Austria.

Victor Anderson:

He's saying oh, okay. I got you. But if you send him to another country, I mean, he's just

TyniBrian:

a chick magnet apparently. Apparently. So the the last scene of Overdrive does we we've been wondering. Brian has been looking for Stevie all episode, saying he's not there. I don't know what happened to him.

TyniBrian:

Well, we do find Stevie at the very last of this, of this episode, and he is apparently somewhere by the sea. No.

Victor Anderson:

It's actually the ocean is behind him. There he is.

TyniBrian:

Yeah. But he's just, that he doesn't know where he is. He says that marrying Al Snow's mom was all worth it and that he's in love and would do it again. Okay. So I guess, yeah, here we go.

TyniBrian:

There's a big boat there.

Victor Anderson:

There he is.

TyniBrian:

Stevie is in a a sleeveless and a sodeless shirt, I guess you'd say. Yeah. It's basically a tunic. But,

Victor Anderson:

No. There's a name for that. I just don't. I'm not cool enough to know what it is.

TyniBrian:

No. I'm not. I'm so I'm not built enough to wear it. So alright. But, yeah, that was our our first look at, Overdrive.

TyniBrian:

It's it's a different show Mhmm. To be sure. Very different from Roz. Again, it was, Linda Kaye and, the East End villain, Josh Ashcraft

Victor Anderson:

Josh Ashcraft. Yes.

TyniBrian:

Who were the, commentators for that. In fact, they were the commentators for Rise this week as well because was under the weather or escaping Europe or whatever. Something was going on.

Victor Anderson:

Well, no. There he was under the weather, I think. He was. Shannon's been under the weather this week

TyniBrian:

too. So They apparently passed it around the locker room. Around. Yep. So Alright.

TyniBrian:

Well, anything else you wanna add for our inaugural overdrive coverage? This was

Victor Anderson:

fun, and I think we probably went longer than we intended to, but that's okay.

TyniBrian:

That's fine. If you're still here, thank you.

Victor Anderson:

Yep.

TyniBrian:

The OVW Podcast, the unofficial podcast of Ohio Valley Wrestling is produced by me, tiny Brian Woodard, the o v with, okay. I don't have it in front of me, so I'm a try to do it all from memory.
