OVW Podcast 139 "Jackman Calls his Mother!" Covering OVW Rise 1395 May 7, 2026
Welcome to episode 139 of the OVW Podcast, the original podcast of Ohio Valley Wrestling. My name is Jackman Ochs.
Brian Allen:My name is Brian Allen.
Brian Hines:I don't know if you know this, but my name is Brian Hines.
Jackman:Today, we're getting into all the action from OVW Rise thirteen ninety five, which broadcast from legendary Hotpoint Davis Arena on Tuesday, 05/07/2026. Thursday. Originally. Thursday, what did I say?
TyniBrian:You said Tuesday. It may say Tuesday in the notes all the way back from, double cross.
Jackman:It does. Read the thing. I just read the thing.
TyniBrian:Thank you. Okay. So that that's my deduction. I'll take I'll own that.
Jackman:I don't have and I
Brian Allen:have
Jackman:no like, deductive reasoning. That's why I just read the thing.
TyniBrian:You just have the anchorman thing.
Jackman:Yeah. I just yeah. Yeah. I just have the thing. First off, guys, we're recording this on Mother's Day.
Jackman:We all have mothers. Shout out to moms out there. Yes. Absolutely. If you're listening to this retroactively, shout out to moms out there.
Jackman:Second all second of all, how are you guys?
Brian Hines:Good. I just got back in from visiting my mom. I went back to Ohio, and I came bearing gifts of flowers and Mexican food and wine.
Jackman:What kind of wine? Combination.
Brian Hines:It was from a Wiseberry. It was a dessert wine.
Jackman:Okay. Right on.
Brian Hines:Good stuff. Good stuff.
Jackman:And, you, mister Allen?
Brian Allen:Yeah. Coming in from from Louisville today. I I was there most of the day visiting mom. No Mexican, but we did French. Okay.
Brian Allen:Had some had some French, so that was that was really good.
Brian Hines:What kind of French food did you have?
Brian Allen:Man, so so what's the see, I already forgot the name. It it it's a soup that's served cold. It's like a potato soup that's served. Dyspacho. My man.
TyniBrian:That was it. I've never had it. I don't know how or or yeah. I don't know how I know it, but
Brian Hines:that is that was that is you ding ding man.
Brian Allen:That's it get the points back
Brian Hines:on. Okay.
Brian Allen:Recovery. Yeah. That was that was
Brian Hines:No. All set.
Brian Allen:Yes. Yeah. No. Good good times, for sure. Good.
Brian Allen:For sure. Yeah.
Jackman:Yeah. My mom left me on red.
Brian Allen:Ain't no no way. Right? Yeah.
TyniBrian:My mom left me on dead.
Jackman:So Damn. Damn. RIP to your mom. What was her name? Jeanann.
Jackman:Jeanann? RIP Jeanann. Absolutely. Rest in power. She was
TyniBrian:actually born Cozzetta. Why'd
Jackman:she change it? She go over the run?
TyniBrian:Because no one ever called her that. Like, apparently, my my grandmother's brother, when when he when she told him, this is Cozzetta, he was like, I'm not calling her that. I'm a call her Jean Ann. And, apparently, he just won the argument. And when she got married, when she was 18, she changed her name legally to Jean Ann.
Jackman:Oh, it was a different time back then.
Brian Hines:It was. Weird. Was.
TyniBrian:The early fifties. Because my mother was old when she had me.
Jackman:It was a different time. My mom was relatively young. Let's get her down to some tour updates. Let's actually, I might call my mom at the end of the show.
TyniBrian:We'll do it live on I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll down.
Jackman:Yeah. I'll call it. That's here's here's here's the plan, guys. Stick around to the end of the show.
TyniBrian:Actually, so we need to start doing an after show. This might be a fun first after show bit since we don't have
Jackman:Trying to get to the store before 09:00 when it closes.
Brian Hines:Okay.
TyniBrian:Yeah. We'll figure we'll get you there.
Jackman:Alright. We'll get there. Let's let's talk about some tour updates, guys. Yes. Talk about some tour updates.
Jackman:Brian Hines?
Brian Hines:Sure. Every Thursday, you can catch OVW at Hotpoint Davis Arena. Doors open at 05:45. First matches are at 06:15. OVW overdrive matches are from 06:30 to seven, and Rise is from seven to nine.
Brian Hines:This Saturday, May 16, we have the Shamrock Slam two in Louisville at 06:30, May 17. We have collision course at Hotpoint Davis Arena. Standard PLE times apply for that.
TyniBrian:June They they don't they prefer us to use OVW premium event. Apparently, WWE gets mad if they use PLE.
Brian Hines:WWE can bite me.
Brian Allen:That sure makes sense, though.
TyniBrian:Death to the Fed episode two out now.
Brian Hines:Hey. I'm I'm right there with you guys. I am done with WWE. Good call. Like, completely.
Brian Hines:Completely. So what is it again?
Jackman:OVW Premium Events. What's what's that?
Brian Hines:OVW Premium Events.
TyniBrian:Yeah. Just call it a premium event.
Brian Hines:The premium event timeline still applies. Do we have any more corrections to make as far as that goes?
TyniBrian:I don't think so.
Brian Hines:Okay. June 6, Oak Grove, Kentucky at 5PM. And lastly, rounding out what we know of the calendar Saturday, June 27, Lawrenceville, Illinois, 04:30PM. That is a 20 one and up show. Tickets for all of these events at ovwrestling.com.
TyniBrian:Does anybody where's that last Kentucky thing before the Indiana show in June? What was that place?
Jackman:The Illinois show?
TyniBrian:Yeah. Before
Jackman:that Oak Grove.
TyniBrian:Yeah. Where's Oak do you know where Oak Grove is?
Jackman:No. Nope. I do not. No clue.
TyniBrian:I'm gonna assume it's somewhere out west. Generally, if I don't know where something in Kentucky is, it's West Of Louisville. That that's a nice handy catch all for me. Sure. Mhmm.
TyniBrian:I just wanted to make sure it wasn't two miles outside of Danville deep in the mountains like like Lebanon.
Jackman:Lebanon's on the other side of Parable.
TyniBrian:But still, that's a place
Jackman:I should know. City was the one that's outside of Danville.
Jackman:Ah. Mhmm.
TyniBrian:Yeah. That's the race course. Right? Yeah.
Jackman:That's the race course. Yeah. Where the
Brian Hines:Is that where the Mexican restaurant is? No. That's where the two one.
Jackman:No. It's close. It's very close to the Mexican restaurant. The Mexican restaurants, Danville Update, have actually all shut down now. They're they got bought out.
Jackman:Really? Yeah. I heard I heard that's
TyniBrian:Bought out and shut down?
Jackman:Well, they're new Mexican restaurant. New recipes.
TyniBrian:Oh, so they're still a Mexican restaurant.
Jackman:It's just
Brian Hines:not the same one. New Mexicans.
Jackman:And it's it's not apparently, it's not as good. It's a little more expensive, not as good. So sad sad Danville update.
Brian Hines:Yeah. Sad Danville. That's how a lot of things are. Unfortunately, the Mexican place around the corner is awful.
Jackman:The one over there next to the in the where the Domino's and the Applebee's is? Yeah. Yeah. Not stressed.
Brian Hines:No. Wow. Completely Yeah.
TyniBrian:I was not I was not happy with that. The one time I went there. The the I like the Chinese place two doors down, though.
Brian Hines:The Chinese place is fantastic.
Jackman:Yes. Alright. Let's get into Alright.
TyniBrian:The episode. Let's let's take a break
Jackman:first.
Jackman:Let's take a break. Okay.
Brian Hines:Why don't we take a break?
Jackman:Patreon.com OVW Podcast. There's some stuff up there. It's a lot of fun. Go check it out. We appreciate, in all honesty, and we'll we'll do the we'll get the hot dog thing done probably this week.
Jackman:But we we appreciate the people that are are taking the ride with us over there at OVW Podcast.
TyniBrian:Already. I was kinda surprised.
Jackman:Yeah. No. Thank you so much. Any any reception at all is is insane to me peep that people would wanna donate my their money, their hard earned money to help us do this thing. That's that's so sick, and we we really appreciate it.
Jackman:And that's the kind of all there is to say about that. Patreon.com/ovwpodcast.
TyniBrian:Well, we we can say what's new because we did just the as we're recording
Brian Allen:this week.
Brian Hines:What is it?
Jackman:No. No. No.
Jackman:Let them go over there.
Jackman:Let them go check it out.
TyniBrian:Well, the fact that two of you are in shorts today is is a fine clue about what may be available at pay probably, you know, if warm weather's on
Brian Hines:your mind.
Jackman:Mhmm. You can join for free and at least see what we post. And if it looks like something that you, wanna wanna view, if even if it's just for a month, we appreciate the donation, and we appreciate you thinking of us. So Yeah. Go over there and check it out.
Jackman:Join it for free. Just, there there is free content on it as of right now. The first video of debt to the fed is is free on there.
TyniBrian:Both fed videos are free now.
Jackman:Free. Okay. Perfect. Even better. Yes.
Jackman:So there is free content over there. That's the only place to find those videos. So go join us over there if if you have a little bit of time. And now we're back. Ray Larson, Freya the Slayer, Leila Feist, joined by Larson with Shalance Royale on commentary is how we start off our night.
Jackman:This is the winner of this match will be going versus Dayami Ho to be crowned the proper number one contender to challenge Shalance at Collision Course for the OVW women's title.
TyniBrian:Did this feel weird to anybody else? I thought that Deyomi was the number one contender and then all of a sudden, no. Hang on. That's one more thing.
Brian Allen:That's the impression I was under that that would be number one contender's match, but it was the number one contenders match to be in the
Jackman:number one number one
Brian Allen:contenders match I guess. Yeah,
Brian Hines:thought that was a fine print.
Brian Allen:You know what happened?
TyniBrian:I kinda felt
Brian Hines:like the beginning of the show got cut off.
Brian Allen:On the replay because I didn't get to watch it live.
Brian Hines:I didn't get to watch it live. That went bad.
Brian Allen:And it was, yeah, a little cut off at the beginning. Yeah. Still a lot of chunky match in there.
Jackman:It was about six minutes less than the usual run time on OVW
Brian Hines:Yes. Video. I noticed that.
Jackman:Yeah. It looks like something did get cut off. What happened? Yeah. Yeah.
Jackman:Not a big deal.
Brian Hines:It happens.
Brian Allen:We still got a lot of great stuff from this match. We got a lot
Jackman:of great stuff from this match and from this whole night in general. Why don't you take us away, Brian?
Brian Allen:Yeah. No. Sure thing. Sure thing. So when things got started, you know, we we were in the middle of action watching that that replay.
Brian Allen:So, you know, we're getting caught up as as the graphs get going on. And Freya, you know, she's being Freya looking strong as ever. You have Leila looking like Leah, looking as athletic, flexible, and and nimble as ever. But then you had Ray Larson coming in here, and then the commentary was kinda mentioned it. Was that
TyniBrian:a different outfit for her for different was that different gear?
Brian Allen:Yeah. Oh, yeah.
TyniBrian:Because it felt like a different presentation for Ray than we'd seen before.
Brian Allen:You're on it. Yeah. No. It absolutely was. She changed it up a little bit, maybe for good reason.
Brian Allen:Maybe she was really feeling it.
TyniBrian:So this presentation.
Brian Allen:So Yeah. It was it was good, and commentary did a good job while, Shalon Save Royal
TyniBrian:was on the table with a website now. Yes. Does..com.
Brian Allen:There you go. Get your eight by tens. Mhmm. And all you
TyniBrian:can of her matches. Yep.
Brian Allen:There you go. What a what a good website to have. Everyone needs that.
TyniBrian:Yeah. But if you wanna hear her sing the, JG Wentworth theme, that is available only on our YouTube channel.
Brian Hines:That is right.
TyniBrian:Go find the interview with her and PJ from a year and a half ago. And and if you have a structured settlement and need cash now, Brian and Shalante will have some advice for you.
Brian Hines:Yeah. There you go.
Jackman:As you were saying, Brian, now.
Brian Allen:Right. No. So that's a good plug for her. She deserves that.
Jackman:I think that I think that Ray Larson here Leila Feist, former war champion Yep. Women's champion. Mhmm. Frasile, a former women's champion.
Brian Allen:Mhmm.
Jackman:Ray Larson is clearly kind of on fire right now.
Brian Allen:Oh, yeah.
Jackman:Huge crowd reception. Yeah. We Mhmm. We love that. Huge presentation in this match.
Jackman:I am a huge Dayami Ho fan. The momentum is a 100% on Ray Larson's side.
Brian Allen:It is. It is.
Jackman:I would agree. She's found herself kind of in a special position. Brian Hines, guess the question I would ask is, like, do you think Ray Larson beat Shalance even with all of that momentum? Because I I think we can go ahead in all honesty and pencil her in as the number one contender.
Brian Allen:Shoo wee. Really?
Brian Hines:Oh, yeah. Just I've Skipping right over That's very Dayami.
Brian Allen:That's
Jackman:and y'all know how much I like Dayami.
Brian Allen:Oh, yeah. We're big fans, of course.
Jackman:Like, I that's just that's the way the winds of change are blowing right now, my friend.
Brian Allen:On fire right now. Yeah.
Brian Hines:She does seem to be poised to take over the women's division, but I I don't see it being a an easy way to get there for her. Mean, Dayami is no slouch. No, She is at the top of her game.
TyniBrian:I expect a banger next week out of those two honestly.
Jackman:Oh, yeah, absolutely.
Brian Hines:And then there's Shalance looking as fierce in and out of the ring as, we've ever seen her.
Jackman:Mhmm.
Brian Hines:Now with, MMA skills.
Jackman:Yeah. I mean, she is is come back full force. And I do think that the Dayami match has more in ring to offer Mhmm. Right now than the Ray Larson match, but I do think that people emotionally will be much more invested in the Ray Larson match. And at the end of the day, that's kinda what we're after here.
Jackman:Right?
Brian Allen:Right. Yeah.
Jackman:That's not to say that Ray Larson's no slouch, but Oh, of course. You know, or or or isn't very capable or anything like that. Mhmm. But the yummy enchiladze would just be a lot of fun.
Brian Hines:Yeah. It It sure would. Yeah.
Brian Allen:And this could all change within a week. Absolutely. That go home show, you know, a lot of this can can change. You never know.
Jackman:Don't know anything. I don't pretend to know anything. That's just that's all we do on this show is we sometimes we're right, sometimes we're wrong. Yeah. Alright.
Jackman:There's something at the end of the show that I called, like, three, four weeks ago. Yep. So I mean, like, you know, anything anything can happen. But I've gotten them I've gotten more of them wrong than I've gotten right. So we'll see.
Brian Allen:It's a hard game, man.
Jackman:Ray Ray Larson versus Dayami for next week. We'll see who's face in the collision course. What were you saying?
TyniBrian:I was gonna say, what'd you guys think of the two who did not come out on top here? We haven't really seen Freya the Slayer compete in a minute on Ryze. Mhmm. It's good to see her back.
Brian Allen:Mhmm.
TyniBrian:In the ring, actually, you know, and I thought she looked good. Yeah. And I thought and I enjoyed Levi Feist as well. Mhmm. I thought they both put on a pretty good show to this evening.
TyniBrian:Y'all wanna see how it ended?
Brian Hines:Yes. Yeah.
Brian Allen:Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely. We have great
TyniBrian:We are back to clips. Thanks to OVW for that.
Brian Hines:Yes. Huzzah. Thank you.
Jackman:To OVW for the clips.
TyniBrian:So let's we we start with Shalante or with Freya on the hot spot here.
Jackman:Look at
Brian Hines:that kick. Is quite the kick.
Brian Allen:You see that flexibility?
Brian Hines:Gotta be like, what, 10 feet in the air?
TyniBrian:And it's taking two of them to get Freya moving. Notice.
Brian Allen:They're trying up. See, things in this match just made sense. Everybody's strategy just made a lot of sense.
Jackman:And then Leila, no surprise.
TyniBrian:Turns immediate immediately turns on her.
Jackman:Yeah. Yep. Yep. Great. And then little this
Brian Allen:little move. Great. This
Jackman:little move is fun stuff.
Brian Hines:Yeah. Yeah. Let's look at that
TyniBrian:little move again. Let's just go to rock to it. See it? Oh, nope. Slide over here.
TyniBrian:One two three. Good night.
Brian Allen:After that fan's on live, I popped out my seat on this one with how we kinda talked about Ray's running and, you know, what what predictions kinda where I know that's not the thing right now to do, but but that got me out my seat. That was exciting.
TyniBrian:Yeah. It was a great great match.
Brian Hines:Yeah. Congratulations.
Jackman:Mhmm. Congrats. Up next is when stunning Steven Steele comes out.
TyniBrian:Yes. So I've got a
Jackman:little edit sound quite the hell of a promo. Yes. Let's go ahead and and hear what you have in
TyniBrian:I have the stuff specifically about Cal. You can talk about how he's getting slim.
Jackman:Well, before we before we see the stuff about Cal, was kinda at the end.
Jackman:Yeah.
Jackman:Steele, I can't believe it. Like, it is it is so wrestling fans can be performative. Sure.
Brian Allen:That's right.
Jackman:They can be very performative in their booing or their cheering. And, hey, that's just part of it, baby. Mhmm. That's part
Brian Hines:of it. Mhmm.
Jackman:And, you know, sometimes, you know, people can take it over the line whenever they because they wanna make themselves part of the show, you know, and the crowd is a huge part of the show, no doubt. But, like, there's a lot of ways to be a fan in o in OVW and to react to wrestling. Steele is, like, the most organic, like, thing I've ever seen.
TyniBrian:Yeah. Like that.
Jackman:I like Like, cross demographic, everyone in the audience, actual cheering.
TyniBrian:Mhmm.
Jackman:Like, actual, like, we wanna see this guy win cheering that doesn't feel performative.
Brian Allen:Not one bit. At all.
Jackman:And then he brings the goods on this promo. He is getting slimmer. He is getting better in the ring. You can tell he's putting in the work. All that all of that part is true.
Jackman:Mhmm. And that's also, like, why people are able to react so genuinely with Steele. Mhmm. Can't He's a really special performer.
Brian Allen:He is.
Jackman:He's a really, really special wrestler. And this promo and the way that people reacted to it and the way that he had him in the palm of his hand proves how how much of a relationship he has with the fans and how how and I mean it, genuine, that relationship is. So let's go ahead and see the Calhero stuff, and then we will, we'll we'll break it down. We'll break it down.
Brian Allen:Mhmm. Karma.
Jackman:Boy, how you doing tonight? Cow. Baby dog, if you wanna stick your nose in my business, I will gladly stick my nose all in yours. Wow. I ain't gonna lie to you.
Jackman:You've already poked a bell. But, baby, no. You don't wanna go into the woods with me, do you? You got a receipt coming because my name is Steven Steele.
TyniBrian:We even heard the little hint of the baby doll at the beginning of his music now. It's just it's so it's just so perfect.
Jackman:Yeah. Great addition. Yeah. He's special. What do you guys what do you guys think about the segment?
Jackman:His words for Calhero. Thoughts, guys?
Brian Allen:He he just he gets it, man. This industry, his business, his his his role, his company, every storyline he's in, everyone he interacts with in the ring or or if it's in a promo. He he just gets it. And, basically, this one, you know, you could you could sum it up kinda if you could sum them in a sentence, term, whatever it may be. He he's telling Cal, watch your back basically because I want that heavyweight title.
Brian Allen:You keep jumping in this picture, and I don't really want here want you here no more. I mean, we we had our our montage, and I'm always gonna point that out. They had a montage that's special for for two people, two girls to have that. And look how far along they've come now in terms of how much they they just dislike each other now. That's hard to do when you've had a montage for That that's that's how much this this I mean, developing few, this is how far it's gone, and it's really gonna lead to something special and something we've talked about a lot with with Cal.
Brian Allen:I mean I mean I mean, Steven is is super mega baby ultra face right now, and and Cal's gonna have to Radiating.
TyniBrian:Yeah. Radiating.
Brian Allen:Yeah. Yeah. And and Cal's gonna have to make a decision soon, especially with with Steven coming straight up and being like, yeah, watch it back. I got a receipt for you. Mhmm.
TyniBrian:I think back to I think it was Christmas chaos 2024. It may have been twenty twenty five's nightmare rumble, that dead of winter. I was we were there early and I remember I was sitting, I like to sit, like, to the right of the hard cam up in the corner. That's my favorite kind of routes to be in at Davis. And I was sitting there in my spot and people were still kind of filtering in.
TyniBrian:It was the pre show. The first time I ever saw Steven Steele came out and made the crowd so angry. Like, people stopped walking to their seats to stand, like, right there by by the, by the beer stand and just scream at this man as he's like, I can't even, you know, shaking his belly. I can't even tell you what he was saying. Mhmm.
TyniBrian:But it and it's just that level of of almost go home heat that he's been able to capture and and turn into this engine of just just power in that arena. It's it's it's been amazing to watch.
Jackman:Yeah. He's a really, really special guy in a really special place right now, Brian Hines.
Brian Hines:Yeah. There have been very few people who have showed up and just had this natural level of charisma. And like you said, that first night where he won the rush division title, people were pissed. People were not
TyniBrian:Oh, yeah. That was much later even. But yeah.
Brian Hines:Right. Yeah. Yeah.
TyniBrian:Yeah. This is just
Brian Allen:the first
TyniBrian:time I saw it. It was just like in a pre show. Like, he wasn't wasn't doing anything.
Brian Allen:Yeah. There were levels to this. Those these are great points. He he started like that. It was heat.
Brian Allen:Yeah. Absolutely. But where you know?
Jackman:As where he started versus where he's at now. I mean, it's absolutely it's been incredible
Brian Allen:to watch. Mhmm.
Jackman:Let's talk about our next match, Brian Hines. That's between our champion, OVW heavyweight champion, Dustin Jackson, and the Polish stallion, Mario Purdue. Yes.
Brian Hines:We get to see Mario Purdue. This is the third week in a row. I thought he I thought he he was at one point, I thought he was gonna do it. I thought he was gonna win, but he definitely gave him a run for his money. That's for sure.
Jackman:He's real likable.
Brian Hines:Yeah. He
Jackman:is. Like, he's he's a he's a long athletic guy. Mean, he wrestles extremely fluently.
Brian Allen:Mhmm.
Jackman:He's very, very smooth.
Brian Hines:Thought On one hand, it's it's not saying a lot versus Dustin Jackson these days, but, you know, as an individual, yeah. I
Jackman:don't know. I don't know. Dustin Dustin still got the goods.
Brian Hines:I don't know, man. I don't know. He seems awful full of himself.
Jackman:Dustin still got the goods.
Brian Hines:Bring some boots if you go to Davis.
TyniBrian:Mario sure has been admitted to the rarefied air of OVW very quickly. He's shooting he's shooting
Jackman:up the card big time.
TyniBrian:Yeah. He's shooting up
Jackman:the card big time right
TyniBrian:now. Even in a non title match to be just to be in the same ring as the heavyweight champion on your third week says something about his capabilities and the trust that apparently the the the backroom sees in him.
Brian Allen:Yeah. No. No. Absolutely. When when we do make our return there, it's that's that's what I've been thinking.
Brian Allen:I'm like, I can't wait to meet the guy. Really? He just like like you said, seems extremely likable, and he he he shooting off that card, and then the crowd reactions are, you know, the first time versus Eric Surge on his rise debut. You know, they're pulling for for Surge. I mean, it's this Eric.
Brian Allen:Come on, man. But Yeah. As Mario's showing up again and again, the the the crowd's starting to show him that love, man. It's well deserved because he's he's been going in that ring, and can't wait to hear him shout a little bit on that mic. Yes.
Brian Allen:If we're getting that soon.
TyniBrian:Certainly, he's gonna have the crowd against Dustin Jackson.
Brian Hines:Oh, yeah. Yeah.
Jackman:Yeah. That's a and if you like, you got here's a key component too. The crowd's already riled up.
TyniBrian:They sure are.
Jackman:Crowd's already riled from Steven Steele in that great women's match. So Yeah. You you throw Dustin Jackson out, you know, kind of your heel be behind Tony Evans Mhmm. And they're ready to they're ready to boo. Mhmm.
Jackman:You know, they've been they've been cheering for two straight segments. They're ready to Like, it's just really smart stuff here. It was. It it in terms of the way that this card was set out. Mhmm.
Jackman:And match quality all night, I would say was and I I don't wanna sound I'm not trying to sound shitty. Match quality was of a higher quality than it than it is most Thursdays. It it it was great.
Brian Allen:It it was, like, like, really fantastic.
TyniBrian:Do you wanna see how it ended? Yeah.
Jackman:Sure. Let's go ahead.
Brian Allen:There. Yeah. Let's go ahead. I'm I'm with you on that point, Hines. A few times here, especially we could land on one of them Polish hammers here near the end.
Brian Allen:I'm like, oh, he
Brian Hines:he he might have it.
TyniBrian:There's a trying for one right there. Oh, man. Super kick from Dustin.
Brian Hines:Yeah. You can't really wait Jackson with your, like, your power move or or whatever. I mean, you've gotta strike while the iron's hot. You gotta stay on him.
Jackman:Oh, absolutely. And the I love that, Hines. You can't be you can't Dustin Jackson's not the kind of wrestler that you wait for an opportunity for. Mm-mm. You have to be offensive the entire time.
Brian Hines:To create it.
Jackman:Yep. I mean, that's it. I'm like, I love that. I love that. Mhmm.
Jackman:Alright. Now it's the time of the show where Brian Allen takes over for a couple minutes. We got Ashton Adonis versus Icon Lee. I'm gonna turn it over here to our friend, our esteemed colleague, and my cohost, Brian Allen.
Brian Allen:Thank you. Thank you very much. So the end all be all. Ashton Adonis versus Icon Lee with his with his TWG. Two guys that well, I was gonna say two guys that we all love a lot.
Brian Allen:You all have a lot of love for Ashton, so let me let me correct myself. Two guys and I have a lot of love for.
Brian Hines:Love Ashton.
Brian Allen:And Ashton, you I
Jackman:I do love t w three. You're right.
Brian Allen:Yeah. Yeah. You know what? You know, it's
Jackman:two guys in there.
Brian Allen:Three three guys that I love, you know, we're on win this program at this very moment. And, Icon has a we when we were talking about this on live, on the on OVW fan zone, both these guys are are coming in real hot. I mean, you got a streak of wins, and it was really hard to decide on this one. Up until that point when when the bell rang, you still didn't really know which direction this was gonna go. But Icon didn't seem too focused on his opponent this match.
Brian Allen:He was more focused on on keeping T Dub in in line. It it it it appeared. Yeah.
Jackman:I like I like that.
Brian Allen:Yeah. After his initial, you know, trying to tell Adonis to, you know, go ahead and and and lay down, let me get the win, and Ashton, of course, was not having that. Why would he? You know, he's signing no contracts or anything yet. So interesting strategy from ICON there to start, but I'm I'm and I'm not I'm not questioning the ICON.
Brian Allen:I'd never do that. I will. But, yeah, I would say that's that's you all's job for me. You know, not not in my not in the job description at the moment, but interesting way to start it. These guys were were going at it for a bit, and then Icon was was really trying to get teed up in line for a while.
Brian Allen:And and You could almost say
TyniBrian:this is Icon's problem generally is that he spends too much time focusing on on on things that aren't happening between
Brian Hines:the
TyniBrian:bells in a ring in a match where he's involved Mhmm. And too much time focusing on, I don't know, posting videos of that match Right.
Brian Allen:Or There
TyniBrian:you go. Posting the words, you know, trying to post him lift and then the product that that he sponsors that that taste like failure. He's trying to put it in the fan zone icon. I'll start naming it and talking about it on this show. Don't test me See see Where
Brian Allen:are the buttons? It's it's a power level thing. Right? It it it it's it's one of those Icon's a big aura guy. I'm a big aura guy.
TyniBrian:He literally loves to post the word aura.
Brian Allen:There you go.
TyniBrian:Just just so you know. How does he
Jackman:get how does he do the thing where he makes all of his letters look different?
Brian Allen:Well, let's see. It's it's called I call it the Cam Newton font.
Jackman:Right? I don't know.
Brian Allen:Has a Cam Newton till still to this day, you know, kinda does his Instagram post. So Icon's taken from from another icon in himself, Cam Newton.
Jackman:Cam Newton.
Brian Allen:Football prodigy, man. So Okay.
Jackman:Hell, yeah. Do you?
TyniBrian:If only you could do, I don't know, a super kick or, you know, things that might win in matches.
Brian Allen:Well well, he didn't lose this match. Right? Yeah. Exactly. Yeah.
Brian Allen:So I can't really say, you you know, maybe the strategy from the get beginning trying to command Ashton and things like that and trying to keep T Dub in line versus focusing on on dismantling his opponent. That all real very well could have paid off near the end. But, unfortunately, we we have a Jake issue going on right now where where Adonis can't even get a a an action out.
TyniBrian:Do wanna see how this ended?
Brian Allen:About attempted murder going on.
TyniBrian:Since they're it's kinda relevant to where we are? Absolutely. Yeah.
Brian Hines:There's an infestation of Jakes.
Brian Allen:We have a lot of Jakes in that in that arena, man.
TyniBrian:So, yeah, Ashton comfortably in command.
Brian Hines:I wanted to see how this turned out.
Jackman:See? Was this was one of the weirder ones when it got announced, and we kind of alluded to it on the fan zone, but not as blatantly as I'm going to do here. Mhmm. Where it's just, like, both of these guys are kinda rising up the card, neither one of them is in a position to take a loss.
Brian Hines:Yeah. Yep. Yeah.
Jackman:You know what I mean?
Brian Allen:Those were the words.
Jackman:Yep. And the disqualification thing made sense. But, yeah, I kind of would have liked to see this be a little bit more straightforward
Brian Hines:if we're being
Jackman:if we're being honest.
Brian Allen:Think There was something there.
Jackman:Yeah. I think that it could have been fun. Mhmm. But Ashlandon is an out of the woods, as I like to say.
TyniBrian:Now here's the moment where I'm trying take that. To get T. Deb to kiss his boot.
Brian Allen:He's just about a certain dominance right now, not against his opponent, against his sheep, and against his flock.
Brian Hines:Yeah. That that's that's not gonna get you very far, man. There's your You're be the shepherd asleep. Yeah. And we got the the Jake offs who came to interfere with the match.
Brian Hines:I mean
Brian Allen:Did you say the Jake off?
Brian Hines:Yeah. I said what I said.
TyniBrian:Can we just Two
Brian Allen:in a row that was heat, man. That's that's
Brian Hines:I mean, I wanna see the end of this match, and here you go pulling on t dubs boots at the
TyniBrian:on the
Brian Hines:apron, man.
Brian Allen:Poor t dub. You got a, well, lick, man, from from Lawless there with that super kick. My goodness.
Jackman:I'm gonna try to hit a dinger right here. Three way tag match. TW three icon Lee, Eric, Serge, Ashton, Adonis, and the remainder of the trifecta. You know what?
Brian Hines:That's you know what? I'm
Brian Allen:That collision course. Let's
TyniBrian:go after you know what?
Brian Allen:Because because
Brian Hines:I could see that being this week's match.
Brian Allen:Because this
Jackman:Or, yeah, possibly this week, maybe collision course. But I'm a I'm a go ahead and try to a dinger on that one.
Brian Allen:I like that because this icon, Adonis, that like we said, that could've this could've been a straightforward thing, and that result, I I think, and y'all probably do agree would have been really cool. Real interesting to see how it all played out, but
Brian Hines:maybe next time. Yeah. Thanks a pant load, guys.
Brian Allen:Yeah. Thank you,
Jackman:Jake.
Brian Allen:Thank you.
Jackman:And that concludes segment with Icon Lee. Brian Hines, return of Anthony Touatelli versus Calhira.
Brian Hines:This might be the match of the night.
Brian Allen:There you go. I mean
Jackman:That's real good, man. This this this
Brian Hines:was this was something we hadn't seen Anthony Touatelli for a couple of weeks. Great to see him back. It was hard to tell whether this was the main event of of hour one. I mean, I assume it was, but the timing was off.
Jackman:Yeah. You know, it was I mean, main event energy either way.
Brian Hines:Yeah. Yeah. Definitely.
TyniBrian:Yeah. It specifically bled across the hour because when they went they went to break at one point and we get the top of the hour disclaimer box. So, yeah, it technically was the main event and the lead off to hour two. It's that big of a match.
Brian Hines:Wow. Yeah. It was.
Brian Allen:It was thick, man.
Jackman:Yeah. Long time. Thirteen minute long match. These two guys are these two guys are lightning in a bottle, man. Anthony Totatelli rules.
Jackman:Cal Hero's in his. He's doing the best wrestling he's ever done. He looks the best he's ever looked Mhmm. Physically and in in the wrestling ring. So this just makes so much sense.
Jackman:Mhmm. But let's run this back. Glad to see that when Anthony also glad to see when Anthony Total Tilly comes back, hasn't lost his place on the card. Right back in there with Calhero Oh, yeah. Taking the victory.
Jackman:Although, you know, it wasn't without a little help,
Brian Allen:Brian Allen. Right. Right. Absolutely. So and and and I wanna bring this up too with with with Toatele coming back.
Brian Allen:Since they had that fatal four way for the title, Totel, Cal, Steven, and DJ. None of these got like like, they've all kinda branched off and and maybe done a different thing here and there with other wrestlers, other storylines, but they've all maintained that spot up on the card. Mhmm. Even Toto, like you said, he's been gone for a little bit, but but this this really interconnected relationship between that title and these four guys, it's still alive and hot every second. Cal and and and Anthony haven't been in a ring with each other in a minute, and it was still just like it felt like just a few days ago that they had that fatal four way for me when I was watching.
Brian Allen:So we kinda go back to that promo earlier where Steven, you know, he it it wasn't all talk. It was very much, he was gonna come make his presence felt
Jackman:For sure.
Brian Allen:In this one. And, you know, Cal, as soon as you see Steven, he he that Cal's gonna have a tendency lately when when whether it's Justin Jackson or Steven Steele, as soon as he sees them, you know, enter the ring, if if if Cal's on a match, it it it really draws his attention away. He's he's got some he's got the beef with these guys. It doesn't get much beefier than that right now, man, with with with two different with two people.
Jackman:Brian Hines, were you surprised when our friend Steven Steele came out?
Brian Hines:No. Absolutely not. As a matter of fact, I think I even mentioned that possibility on the fan zone this past week that I thought that we would see him. He didn't interfere. No.
Brian Hines:He he just made his presence known, and that was Sometimes less is more, and this was one of those times. Because, like you said, as soon as he made his presence known, Cal Hero's head was out of the game.
Brian Allen:Yeah. It it's it's kinda since he lost that title and in the way he lost it, it it's because you didn't see that too much before, but now you do. Since he lost that title again in the way he did, those distractions really, really get him now. Yeah. They they they they get his attention, and it all goes back to he he he just wants his championship back, man.
Jackman:He really does. You really hate to see a nice guy descend into madness like that.
Brian Allen:Yeah. We've all been there.
TyniBrian:Yeah. Y'all wanna see how
Brian Allen:this ended? Yes, please.
TyniBrian:Yeah. It is.
Brian Hines:Yeah. Yeah. That that's really unfortunate.
Jackman:Oh, the knee. And Anthony telltalee's out.
Brian Allen:And straps down.
Jackman:Old old school Cali Hero, the knee.
TyniBrian:Look how look how stacked
Jackman:he He's broad, dude. He's broad.
Brian Allen:But then Little baby doll. Steel, man.
Jackman:Pushing Steven steel to the ground.
TyniBrian:And not much retention. Butt. Just not even down all the way. Mhmm.
Brian Hines:The look on his face, the anger on his face, he looks like he's gonna turn this bus around and end your precious little field trip if you follow me.
Brian Allen:Oh, yeah. They gotta get you gotta get turned around, Cal. What do you see? That was it.
Brian Hines:There it
Jackman:is. Right there. Kneesed.
Brian Allen:That's it. Yep. It was three of them.
Jackman:And Steven Steele, big smile on his face from the ramp way there.
Brian Hines:Yeah. Mhmm. You can't sleep on a guy like Toa Tilly with moves like that.
Jackman:No. No. No. Anthony Toa Tilly
Brian Hines:Just like that.
Jackman:You know?
Brian Allen:A threat every second. Let's talk about
Jackman:I think we have the we have the Icon Lee guest host, you know, or or shift of focus, rather, I think, be more better to better way to put it. Mhmm. Let's now shift focus to Brian Hines while we talk about Jay DeNiro.
Brian Hines:If I would have thought about it, I would have grabbed the the shoes to put behind me for the
TyniBrian:This is definitely a week that we needed the Jade De Niro show.
Jackman:Yeah. This this
Brian Hines:was definitely it. So fan zone on Wednesday for sure. I'll make sure that those are here. They're actually in my car.
Brian Allen:Oh, okay.
Brian Hines:My my son, was like, what are you doing with shoes like this? And I was like, yeah. It's a long story. If you don't watch the podcast, you know. But
Jackman:Wait. Your super cool 16 year old son doesn't watch our podcast?
Brian Hines:He's he's busy doing 17 year old stuff. Wow. On the play.
TyniBrian:I can't believe we don't appeal to the kids. I just want kids
Brian Hines:Now his his friends watch.
Brian Allen:Okay. I'll
TyniBrian:take that. That's unexpected.
Brian Hines:You know, I'd I'd probably embarrass him, so it's just one of those things. But it's no big deal.
Jackman:Well, why what would ever give you that?
Brian Hines:The several things. Anyway
TyniBrian:All the evidence.
Brian Hines:All the evidence is is there, and you can go back and watch any and all of it if you'd like. But and if the if this was, like, a battle of promos, who do you feel like won? Because I feel like this is the best J. De Niro promo we've we've gotten so far. Granted, there haven't been many of them.
Brian Hines:Mhmm. And it's been very short and to the point for the most part. But this one was very fiery, very impassioned. And, yeah, he's he's, you know, out there. He's hanging with 20 year olds and and did better than both of them did.
Brian Hines:He came out on top.
Jackman:I loved the promo. I thought it was great. Thought it was great to kind of finally, like, clear up the and he said it, man. He said he said some of these things exactly himself. Clear up the kids thing.
Jackman:Let's hear Jay's actual story on it, which we haven't heard. Mhmm. All we've heard is the heels bake in front of these. He's got 37 kids. Whatever.
Jackman:We've never we've never heard on microphone on OVW how many kids he actually has, his relationship to them or anything like
Brian Hines:that. Right.
Jackman:Mhmm.
Jackman:I think that that was really smart to get get in front
TyniBrian:of that. Mhmm.
Jackman:Really smart to get out in front of the age thing. Yep. Yep. Because Jay is all all of all of those things are only going to serve Jay when he inevitably loses to Dust Jackson. I mean Yeah.
Brian Allen:That's that's sound.
Jackman:But he is he is a made man baby face, top of the card baby face as of right now and this promo.
Brian Hines:Yeah.
TyniBrian:Yeah. This actually felt like after three years and think about that, Jackman O'Brien and Malachi. He's been in OVW just about as long as we've been covering it. Like, I remember the first time Jadenaro was in the building as far as as far as being on stage. Mhmm.
Brian Hines:I was
TyniBrian:or being in the ring. I saw it.
Jackman:I do think it was funny that his kids wear a Kalahiro shirt, though. I didn't I didn't think that was funny. But, like, also, like, there there's something kind of very sweet in that too because he didn't say, oh, so you're gonna make the gimmick look bad.
TyniBrian:Yeah. He said he said
Jackman:he said, where wherever you want. Where where like, there's something very earnest and sweet in that, like
Brian Hines:As a good dad would.
Jackman:Yeah. Exact like, if if you know, you know, like, kinda thing. Like, there's no storyline reason for that. There's no storyline implication for that. But, like, the we're not we're not in the seventies anymore.
Jackman:Yeah. You know? And I just think it's that shows, like, yeah. Oh, no. You're gonna be on TV tonight, but you're wearing the guy that I just beat shirt.
Jackman:Whatever. Let's get you out the door. Let's get you there safe. I think there's something very sweet about that.
TyniBrian:Well, he even started out giving Cal and Steven their props.
Jackman:And they they deserve it. Oh, yeah. Well, that's you got to that's I love that. I I think that that's something that's been taken out of promos to the detriment of promos is acknowledging how good the people around you are. Because when you're beat when you only beat scrubs, it doesn't matter.
Brian Allen:Yeah.
Jackman:And if you think they're scrubs all the time, then you then you don't matter.
Brian Hines:Mhmm.
Jackman:You know? To go any any good heel promo, you know, seventies to eighties starts with how good how good, you know, the people in the match
TyniBrian:are. Otherwise, there's no way to set contrast
Brian Hines:and say,
TyniBrian:but I'm better.
Brian Allen:Right. Yeah.
Jackman:Right. No. I mean, I I think that I think you gotta do that. I think that is such a it's a a foregone notion. The a a notion of simpler time Mhmm.
Jackman:That I wish would come back. Mhmm. Yeah. Any final words about the promo? Do we have any clips of the promo?
TyniBrian:No. I I
Jackman:I tried to
TyniBrian:clip it. Yeah. I tried to clip it, and it just I was like, this is gonna end up being just six minutes of us sitting here watching because it's such a good promo. Go back and watch the whole thing.
Brian Hines:You really should.
TyniBrian:I I really I feel like this was sort of the real kind of here's Jay De Like, even though we've been watching him for three years, this felt sort of like the real sort of introduction of this man Yeah. To the center of the ring and to the spotlight, and it is well past time. We're And glad to have you, Jay De Niro.
Brian Allen:Yeah. He he said, I got three things I do here, and it was really sick. He said, I kick ass
TyniBrian:Mhmm.
Brian Allen:Entertain these fans
Brian Hines:He does.
Brian Allen:And win championships, specifically Dustin Jackson's heavyweight title. And then that's where he left it at. That was that was not just, you know, my favorite promo of his so far. Was one of my favorite promos, as I've been an OVW fan. Like, that was Sure.
Brian Allen:That was nice.
TyniBrian:Really nice. He also teaches at the OVW Academy.
Jackman:Yes. He does.
Brian Hines:That's right.
Jackman:Yeah. Really, really, really good stuff. Really great show up and down up and down this week. Mhmm. And, you know, and I'd usually, if a show is, like like, you know, you kinda just don't put it over Mhmm.
Jackman:As much. This show is deserves for me to state over and over again. Like, there's not a piece of this that was wasted.
TyniBrian:Every Matches, promos, it's all good from here up to the bay.
Brian Hines:Good stuff.
Jackman:Good. Good stuff. Let's talk about our tag team match between the Z Force and Donovan Cecil and Tony Gunn. I know you're a big Donovan Cecil guy. I know that you talk to mama mammoth sometimes.
Brian Hines:I do.
Jackman:What does she think about the Tony Gunn situation? Do you have any insight on that?
Brian Hines:Well, I hadn't talked to her recently, but I'm I'm sure that she probably will always have a a place in her heart for the tag team that was Donovan Cecil and Jack Vaughn.
Jackman:Yep.
Brian Hines:But, I mean, I I didn't see where Tony Gunn was a bad choice. It looks like they they came to the ring. They were ready, and this was a hell of a match.
Jackman:It was.
Brian Hines:It was a a really good, evenly matched set of of teams. You've got bigger guy who's got a ton of power, and then you've got somebody who's smaller and and more flexible and has, you know, has the experience. What do you think, Brian Allen?
Brian Allen:Yeah. Man, I really, really love when Donovan, Sizzle, and Kid Colossus getting there together and do their stare offs. They're really yapping at each other.
Brian Hines:Yeah.
Brian Allen:And then when they do that, just I have no other term for this right now. But this when they do their meat on meat moment, they're just slapping into each other, shoulder checking each other. It's awesome stuff. You could probably feel that rumble a little bit from down the street, maybe a few miles down. You'd you'd you'd feel that when they start going at it.
Brian Allen:Super z and man, he he's in there with some with some some big guys all the time. And and no matter how much they'll try to take advantage of of any height, weight advantage they have and then try to toss them around a little bit. He always finds a way to just fly Yeah. And take full advantage still. His stamina, endurance, it's absolutely fantastic.
Brian Allen:And it is of his the tire, it's of his appearance. It's super. There's no other way to put it. So damn good match. I I was expecting go ahead, Jackman.
Brian Hines:You bet you had a thought.
Jackman:Well, obviously, the the moment everyone was waiting for is the the two big guys. Right? Yeah. That's that's that's that's the appeal of the match Mhmm. When you look at the poster.
Jackman:Mhmm. I've compared Davin Cecil to Mitsuharu Masawa on this show several times for a lot of different reasons. I think that they're kinda built the same. I think that they are both freakishly athletic for their size. I think that they have kind of the same a lot of the same aura.
Jackman:Mhmm. And then Donovan Cecil pulls out a Michinoku driver in the middle of this match on Kid Colossus on Kid Colossus. Mhmm. Yeah. Right?
Jackman:Crazy. Crazy stuff. Then he he he goes out out of he projects himself out of the ring.
Brian Allen:Over the top rope? Yeah. Big guy like that.
Jackman:That's the most it's this is his most Massawa match yet. Like, I I I hope he's I hope he's studying tape, man. Because I really think that he could he could learn a lot from that guy. He has the skill set, and, like, trust me, that is a crazy skill set to have in wrestling. Mhmm.
Jackman:A crazy, crazy skill set to have in wrestling. Like, I'm just so so consistently impressed by Donovan Cecil.
Brian Allen:Mhmm. Absolutely. And and I was thinking the whole time, I know they did eventually show up, but these these troublemakers, I was like, that poop cake might have got them.
Jackman:Yeah. They might not be out here. I can see my kid.
TyniBrian:That might have we move on to to the troublemakers part of the evening, you wanna see how the actual match ended? Yes.
Brian Hines:Yes.
TyniBrian:Let's do that. See, we got Tony doing his best for kid Colossus.
Jackman:Uh-oh. Yeah. Here we go.
Brian Hines:That looked awkward.
TyniBrian:He didn't
Jackman:he didn't get all he didn't get all
Brian Allen:of it. Didn't get all, but but, man, he he he got
Jackman:some of it. He tried it. I mean to Colossus on that one. Yeah. Yeah.
Jackman:Yeah.
Brian Hines:If he would've landed just
TyniBrian:And then. Yeah.
Jackman:Yeah. I didn't say I didn't say that he he got he got it.
Brian Allen:Yeah. But just the attempt and and the flow to still finish the match right
Jackman:after that. You're gonna Right? Yeah. You're you're gonna make mistakes, like, inevitably. That's part of the beauty of this this sport in all honesty to me.
Jackman:Mhmm. Shout out to referee for getting over there. Super quick. Shout out to the nurse at ringside getting over there super quick. You can see both things happen on camera.
Jackman:Mhmm. And, again, Colossus, smart guy.
Brian Allen:Good stuff. Yeah.
Brian Hines:I'd love to see them in a Sumo match.
Jackman:I mean, I don't know. I'd love to see him in one on one for sure.
Brian Allen:Well
TyniBrian:Yeah. And I love the the the roll over here. That's the second match in a row where we see the pin.
Brian Allen:Got a roll up. Yep.
TyniBrian:Right. Tony's got it. Nope. Nope. Z's got
Brian Hines:it. Yoink.
Jackman:Super z takes the victory.
Brian Allen:Even helped put all the body weight on there near the end to get that last three. That was
Brian Hines:that was good stuff, man.
Jackman:Troublemakers come out afterwards. Looks like we're gonna get more z four shovel maker stuff down the road and that
Brian Hines:would be Oh, yeah.
Jackman:Troublemakers with baby the line of the night. In a night full of great promos, no one said more about their character than the troublemakers when they referred to Katie Gannon as the hottest chick in OVW. Mhmm. And not like their boss or, like, the GM. No.
Jackman:Or, you know, no one did more for their character than yeah. I'd I'd I'd say that in jest, but it was a very funny line. It was a it was a told a lot about them.
TyniBrian:Yeah. And it really sold those care that that promo that they did together really sold that that presentation of the troublemakers.
Brian Allen:Yeah. Characters from that realm, they're gonna be worried about, look, don't make us reference, talk about, or seem like we gotta go take a duke in front of the baddies. That was it. Yeah.
TyniBrian:Yeah. It's a
Jackman:bad place to be. I'll hand in that. I'll hand in that.
Brian Allen:I agree. That's a fair.
TyniBrian:They did seem traumatized by by the ex lax cake.
Brian Allen:I would be too.
TyniBrian:The poop cake. Yes.
Brian Allen:Can we get one of those on set?
TyniBrian:Poop? A poop? No. I mean, I might get you a poop emoji.
Brian Allen:But Hey. Hold on.
TyniBrian:I I do not want the the idea of y'all having to ditch out in the middle of a thing to go use
Brian Hines:Drop a loaf?
TyniBrian:Yeah. Mhmm. No. We're not setting that possibility yet.
Brian Allen:And and I had a question too while we have just a second. Is my awareness terrible, or has Gumby always been up there?
Jackman:No. No. I go out.
Brian Allen:That's Gumby's
Brian Hines:in Just a couple weeks.
Jackman:Brandon Abner put him up there.
Brian Allen:Okay.
Brian Hines:I'm not surprised.
Brian Allen:I yeah. That was just killing my brain for a minute. I had to throw the question out. I'm I'm sorry.
Brian Hines:For those
Jackman:for those that can't see it right above
TyniBrian:And not to everybody but us.
Brian Hines:Have my
Jackman:family here. We have a, a prop thing for another camera that we never use, and I'm sure one of Brian Hines' Oh, yeah. Gumby's
Brian Hines:is Yeah.
Brian Allen:Yeah. Gumby's making good use of it.
Jackman:Kinda riding it like a horse.
Brian Allen:Yeah.
Brian Hines:Yeah. He was a Christmas tree topper one year. Yeah. When I I first started out, I it was my first Christmas tree and my first place by myself, and he was the Christmas tree topper because I was young and poor and didn't have any decorations.
Brian Allen:We understand, man. We understand. He he he's doing a great job, So I wanted to shout him out.
Jackman:Shout out Gumby. Shout out to Gumby.
Brian Hines:Great, Gumby.
Jackman:Let's shout out Jota Peso and Brian Hitt. Another Brian.
Brian Allen:Yeah. We're always shouting out another Brian.
Brian Hines:That's right. We've got to.
Jackman:So you guys did you you guys liked him more? What what did you guys think? We love having a peso around here. Right? Yeah.
Jackman:We always do. We always do.
TyniBrian:Well, you I mean, we know that you're the the the Suavamac
Jackman:or whatever you call Suavamac? SuavMac.
Brian Allen:Swabomatic. Hold on. SuavMac. Yeah.
Jackman:Suavmaxing. Yeah. Yeah. Suav loading. 99%.
Jackman:Okay. Mocking? Swab mocking. Swab mocking. Swab mocking.
Jackman:Yeah, dude. There you go, dude. I think that this this match is it's one of those kinda classics. Like, we got a new guy out there. Let's get him out there with Jota Peso, established, capable guy.
Jackman:Give him a little TV time, see how the audience reacts to him. But this match is not about the match. Yep. It's about what happens after the match, which is what Brian Hines.
Brian Hines:We, of all the people we we hear from, we hear from Maximo Suave's mom. I guess maybe since it's Mother's Day.
Jackman:That's dirty. So yeah. That's dirty.
Brian Hines:That was and you know that they they go back a long way. They've got history together. Mhmm.
TyniBrian:I do have video of this encounter if you guys wanna see the ending of this match.
Jackman:Sure.
Brian Allen:Let's take a look. Let's take a look.
Jackman:That's good.
Jackman:Great selling from from Manny here. Face looks so concerned.
Jackman:Last thing I have to
Jackman:Maximo looks like he's in blood in blood out.
Brian Allen:Face on the screen. Amazing. Man. That was
Brian Hines:yeah. Maximo. That's just dirty. Dirty poor Maximo.
Jackman:When you bring
Brian Allen:the moms into dirty.
Jackman:Beating the tar out of him too, man. He can't. He he keeps going after him. You know, they clear out the back as they usually do in these situations. And anytime that he can get just another couple of punches in, that's where he's at, right on top of him again.
Jackman:I've I've I really like it after the segment. AJ McKay said that they heard from the back Mhmm. That there will be a stipulation the next time these two men meet.
Brian Hines:Mhmm. No moms?
TyniBrian:Moms extra moms. Whoever
Brian Hines:wins gets both moms.
TyniBrian:Yeah. Mama Suave on a pole match.
Jackman:They did that and that's yeah.
TyniBrian:Guess that's already been done. Really? That's mama Bagwell out of pole. I had forgotten.
Jackman:They lifted her up on a little what's that thing we ride around down there? Pickup barrels.
Brian Hines:The the forklift?
Jackman:Yeah. They put it down. Put it like a
Brian Hines:little forklift.
Jackman:Lifted her up.
Brian Hines:Okay. Okay.
Jackman:Second second best forklift spot in the history of wrestling. First best, obviously, the Super Bowl halftime show, Mankind and The Rock, where they fight in the empty arena. You seen that?
Brian Hines:No. I have not.
Jackman:Oh, so good. So good. It's a great match. Great match. I don't wanna spoil it for you since neither one of you guys have ever seen it.
TyniBrian:But Is that COVID era?
Jackman:No. No. No.
Brian Hines:No. It's way before that.
Jackman:I mean, it was when WWE was the hottest thing in the world big enough to get a different channel to have an alternate halftime show for them. So
Brian Hines:Oh, yeah. Back before they ruined themselves.
Jackman:I can't remember what what it's called, but, man, what a what a match. And I'm a like, I really love empty arena matches, like, a lot. I think that when they're done correctly, they are so, like, shockingly violent and and and eerie. And that one is is definitely the best maybe only one the WWE ever did that wasn't in COVID. So good really, really good stuff.
Jackman:Mankind Mankind and The Rock.
Brian Allen:Gotta check it out.
Jackman:Yeah. It should be on I'm guaranteed it's on YouTube. Yeah. Yeah.
Brian Allen:Guaranteed it's
Jackman:on YouTube. We'll do we'll predict what we might think the
TyniBrian:Yeah. That's for Wednesday.
Jackman:Yeah. We'll we'll do that on Wednesday.
Brian Allen:I don't
Jackman:I don't wanna talk about that here. Let's talk about our last segments. Tony Evans. There's a lot of glowing words for the rest of the family other than Drew Hernandez.
Brian Allen:Mhmm. Something you you've been Coming. You've been putting out there for you. Green lights from out there for sure. For sure.
Jackman:Got that one. Too.
Brian Allen:Nailed that one. Yep.
TyniBrian:I was watching on Thursday and thought, well, Jackman's gonna be insufferable.
Jackman:Hey. You know? Here's what here's in all honesty, I I I do say a lot. I get a lot right. I get a lot wrong.
Jackman:Mhmm. But it's because I watch movies. Yeah. It's because I don't watch a lot. Kind of movies.
Jackman:It's because I just don't watch wrestling. And and I I am so my brain is so rotted that small things stick out Mhmm. Like like that. Well, I was over at your house a few months ago, and I watched, like, five minutes of a Star Trek thing and told you exactly what was I was like I was like, oh, yeah. This planet, like, what?
Jackman:It has regenerative properties or something?
TyniBrian:Yeah. It is There you go. It is weird because he'll come he would come over to my house. We'd sit and talk, and Star Trek would just be on. Mhmm.
TyniBrian:Like, I it's just the noise that is on in my house a lot. In the background? Yeah. And I don't make him a, hey, man. Sit down.
TyniBrian:Look at this Deep Space Nine episode. And then, well, you know, he'd been doing it a few weeks, and then he's like, you know what? Star Trek. And then he gives me, like, a five minute lecture about why Star Trek is cool. And I'm like, well, you're you're right.
TyniBrian:Mhmm. But how do you know? Mhmm. So, yeah, you do seem to have that kind of a pick it out talent.
Jackman:I can also it's sick. I can, like, I can watch two things at once and, like, understand them. It's gross. This is all
Brian Allen:a bit in itself, especially the being able to just kinda break down, predict the story line. Because because the past few weeks, I'm telling you, I'll be I'll be watching Rise, rewatch, or live, whatever it may be. And I'm just like, man, I Jackman Ochs, he he got it. He got the script.
Brian Hines:I swear to god
Brian Allen:that son of a
Jackman:Last night, I watched Marty Supreme while I had podcasts on in my head.
Brian Allen:And you could you could do a at least, like, four paragraphs on each
TyniBrian:Try to
Brian Allen:get a summary.
Jackman:Yeah. Yeah. Like, it's it's gross. It's I'm like, my brain is rotted. It's not it's like it's I don't want it's not a special skill or anything.
Jackman:It's growing up in the information age and and just
TyniBrian:Not taking your head out of Yeah.
Jackman:That's all that's all it comes down to.
TyniBrian:So let's stop talking about your rotted brain, and let's go back to the actual content of our US champion, Tony Evans' finale bit here on Rise.
Brian Allen:He he didn't like the you can't wrestle chance. I didn't like it either. He said, I'm wearing the the top title in the damn company. Yep.
TyniBrian:You see, I can't wrestle.
Brian Allen:He's like like, how how does that work basically? And he's right. You can't.
Jackman:Hold on. Got we got something we might have to investigate. We might have to go
Brian Allen:to the review booth. The booth? Yeah. Hey. Let's do it.
Jackman:What's that? We have we have the live chat up.
Brian Hines:Mhmm.
Brian Allen:Mhmm. Uh-huh.
Jackman:Was Ashcraft vaping?
Brian Allen:What's what's the rule on
Jackman:Was it we got
Brian Allen:the Serena. Yeah.
Jackman:We might have to oh, what? Rule of Davis, I mean, if you ask me. Mhmm. Make sure Joe doesn't see it.
Brian Allen:Yeah. There you go.
Jackman:We might have to we might have to Or
TyniBrian:smell it.
Jackman:We might I don't wanna do it tonight, but we might have to throw that in the review booth. And Yep.
TyniBrian:And I can go back and get on super slow mo and see if I can find it.
Jackman:Yeah. And see if the we have the audio too. You if we can hear the I mean, I can do it right now.
TyniBrian:That's not.
Jackman:That's the other show. Hines, I feel like you're a guy that's been a big advocate for Tony Evans for a really long time. Sure. Now that he's at the top of the company, he's ahead of the Star Rider match. Where do you what is your relationship with him now as a fan?
Jackman:Well,
Brian Hines:I was I mean, we knew that the relationship with Jadenaro wasn't gonna last. So he had to get a different insurance policy. I didn't know it was, gonna be Drew Hernandez, but it looks as though he's about to send Drew Hernandez back to, his former employer, Chili's. Mean, he he's at the top of the heel game, man. He's at the hop of the top of the heel pile.
Brian Hines:I I can't wait for this. I can't wait for this match. Do I wanna see Star Rider lose the mask? No. I don't.
Brian Hines:But at the same time, it's like the buildup to this, it's like one of those things where it's like you don't know who you you really wanna root for.
Brian Allen:I want
Brian Hines:I want both I want everybody to win, but that's not how it works. But, yeah, he very much has my attention.
Jackman:Well and here's the thing too is as we get closer to the Star Rider match and I think the more likely choice is that he does lose the mask. Mhmm. There's a part of me that's, like, sad. Like, there's a part of me that's kinda just knows that that character is without the mask changed forever. And that doesn't mean that it's gonna be a a bad thing, but it just means that it like, it's the end of the end of the era.
Jackman:It's like when Cal stopped wearing a fanny pack, man. It's it's just a thing that we we've seen and associate with this character. And when it's gone, it's a little melancholy.
Brian Hines:Mhmm.
Jackman:Yeah. Having said that, on the opposite side, if he becomes the new US champion
TyniBrian:Mhmm.
Jackman:All of that, like, melancholy turns into elation, turns into enthusiasm. Mhmm. Even if it's just for a week, like, the moment would be so big.
Brian Hines:That would be a huge win.
Jackman:Because the build has been really
TyniBrian:good. Yeah.
Jackman:And I'm con I'm torn I'm torn much the same way you are, Hines, about about the future of of this match and and who should win and who's the the smart choice or who's the head Yeah. Choice or who's the heart choice or whatever you wanna say. But I I would I would be remiss if I didn't say that there's, like, a genuine melancholy around the prospect of Star Rider losing the mask.
Brian Allen:Like Yeah.
Jackman:It there really for me, there really is. And I didn't think I would feel that way, like, two weeks out because I've been You're ready for it. Yeah. Yeah. I thought I was ready
Brian Allen:for mask to go there.
Jackman:I thought I was ready for it. And now that we're on the precipice of it, I'm a little scared of it. Funny how stuff like that works. Yeah. Any final thoughts, guys?
TyniBrian:Y'all wanna talk about the the the the episode as a whole now that we've kinda talked about each thing individually? What you've had some pretty good things to say about the hole.
Jackman:Well, I mean, it's it's a I I don't know what more I can say than that some some Thursdays and I get it I get why. Sometimes some to quote Sturgill Simpson, sometimes you blast off and sometimes you just smoke. Right?
TyniBrian:Mhmm. Mhmm.
Jackman:They were blasting off tonight.
Brian Allen:Yeah. Absolutely. Absolutely. Yeah. They were.
Brian Allen:Not just because of I mean, the quality in the ring this week was was just exceptional, but we got I almost said two, three Three. Really damn good promos. Top tier promos. I mean, is is is teaching tape of out
TyniBrian:of three promos attempted. Yeah. Three excellent promos.
Brian Allen:Three for three.
TyniBrian:100% of the space. No wasted movement.
Jackman:Shalanse was great on commentary that women's three way was was fantastic.
Brian Allen:That was
Brian Hines:a great way to start the episode.
Jackman:Count your own Anthony Totelli, again, is fantastic. Donovan Cecil is a fucking Michinoco driver. What more what more do I have to say? What more do I have to say? Yeah.
Brian Allen:Great. That that sums it up.
Jackman:Alright. Let's, let's get out of here. Oh, wait. No. I called my mom.

Brian Hines:For a little bit.
Jackman:You played when you played, you'd, like, kinda just talk to the coach the whole time when you're in the house.
Jackman:He was the most interesting guy there. Then who else was I supposed to talk to?
Jackman:But didn't you do anything else besides talking?
